Hiking & Outdoor Activies

Elka Park Area

  • Plattekill Falls – A relatively short (~0.3-mile) trail leading to a stunning waterfall through Platte Clove Preserve. Best for intermediate hikers—strong footwear recommended.

  • Multiple Trails at AllTrails – Numerous scenic hikes around Elka Park; notable ones include Huckleberry Point, Indian Head Mountain Loop, and Twin Mountain

  • Indian Head Wilderness Trails – Explore interconnected trails such as Roaring Kill Trail (0.3 mi), Pecoy Notch Trail (1.8 mi), and Mink Hollow Trail (5.3 mi). These can be combined into a 7-mile loop that includes Sugarloaf Mountain for an adventurous outing.

  • Devil’s Path Eastern Trailhead – Classic and challenging terrain begins near Elka Park (Prediger Road), and can be accessed for shorter hikes or longer treks along this rugged path.

Tannersville

  • Huckleberry Trail – Family-friendly 2.3-mile path ideal for light walks or easy exploration.

  • Mountain Top Arboretum – A beautiful 200-acre public garden at 2,400 ft elevation with forest trails, wetlands, meadows, and native flora—perfect for walking, birding, or a peaceful outing.

Phoenicia

  • Kaaterskill Falls – One of the region’s most famous waterfalls; a well-marked trail with a steep approach but rewarding views.

  • Giant Ledge – Panther Mountain – A dramatic sunrise hike with spectacular ridge views—highly popular!

Windham

  • Windham Path – A short, 1.5-mile easy path, great for families; scenic and accessible.

  • Windham High Peak via Burnt Knob – For panoramic Catskills views in a more challenging 7-mi hike, this is a rewarding choice.
